Factorial’s LMS includes a built-in Course builder that allows you to create structured, interactive learning content directly inside the platform, no external tools required.

This guide explains the different content types you can add and how course progression works.

What is the Course builder?

The Course builder is where you design the learning content that employees will complete. Participants will find this content in the Catalogue, if published there; and in My Courses, if the participant is added to the course.

You can combine different types of steps — such as videos, pages or quizzes — and organise them into a clear structure. Participants will move through the course step by step, completing each part before unlocking the next one.

Content types you can add

When creating or editing a course, you can choose from four main content types. Each one serves a different purpose in the learning journey.

1. Modules

Modules help you structure your course into sections or chapters.

• Think of modules as section headers
• They group the content that follows
• They don’t contain content themselves — they are organisational elements

2. Videos

Videos allow you to upload learning material directly into the course.

• Learners have to watch the video to unlock the next module
• Video progress is tracked automatically
• Great for training recordings, tutorials, onboarding sessions, etc.

3. Pages (Image + Text)

Pages are simple learning screens where you can combine:

• Inline images with resizing
• Video embeds for Youtube and Vimeo 
• A block of text

They’re ideal for explanations, guidelines, summaries, or visual examples.

4. Quizzes

Quizzes help check knowledge before participants move on.

• Admins can set the minimum score required to pass quizzes for each course.
• The passing score can vary by course. For example, one course can require 100% to pass, while another can require 60%.
• Users must pass the quiz according to the required score in order to continue to the next step.
• They can see which answers they got wrong — but not the correct ones.
• Learners can retry a quiz after passing if they want to improve their score. The most recent attempt is the one that counts.
• The passing score applies to the course's existing assessments, not only to assessments created afterwards.
• Attempts that have already been submitted keep the passing threshold they were graded against. A new attempt is graded using the threshold that is current when it is submitted.
• By default, quizzes require a score of 100% to pass. If the passing score is not changed, this default remains in place.

How course progression works

Courses are completed step by step, in the order you define.

• Steps remain locked until the previous one is completed
• The sidebar shows the learner’s progress
• Videos must be fully watched
• Quizzes must be passed
• Pages are marked as complete when the participant has viewed them

This ensures every employee follows the right sequence and completes all mandatory content.

How to build your course (quick steps)

1. In your sidebar, go to Training 
2. Access the All courses tab 
3. Open a LMS course
4. Click Add Content
5. Add a Module to structure the course
6. Under that module, add:
   • Videos
   • Pages
   • Quizzes
7. Drag and drop to reorder steps
8. Preview your course to check the flow
9. Click Publish when you're ready

   No, courses follow a sequential progression. Steps unlock only after completing the previous ones.
