Discover effective strategies for maintaining an organized activity log to enhance your time tracking and productivity.

Table of Contents

The Activity Log gives admins a clear history of the actions performed on an employee’s timesheet. You can see what happened, who performed each action, and when it happened, helping you quickly understand changes to worked-time data.

Overview

The Activity Log provides a timeline of time-tracking actions for an employee. It helps you understand who changed or interacted with a timesheet and whether the action was performed manually or automatically.

You can use the Activity Log to review actions such as:

  • Timesheet approvals and reopens
  • Clock-ins and clock-outs
  • Forgotten clock-outs
  • Breaks
  • Overtime requests
  • Shift edits
  • Edit-timesheet requests
  • Autofill actions

Each activity includes the author and date. Activities are displayed as easy-to-read sentences, with links to the people involved when applicable.

The Activity Log is available to anyone with the Access activity log permission. This permission is granted to admins by default.

When and why it should be used

Use the Activity Log when you need to understand what happened to an employee’s timesheet. For example, you can use it to:

  • Identify who made a change to a timesheet.
  • Check when an action took place.
  • Understand why worked-time data looks different from expected.
  • Review when a timesheet was approved or reopened.
  • Investigate unexpected breaks, clock-outs, or other time-tracking changes.
  • Resolve questions about timesheet data without contacting Support.

How to use

  1. In your sidebar, go to Time Tracking
  2. Open the employee’s Timesheet
  3. Click on the clock on the upper right corner to open Activity
  4. Review the activity timeline in the side panel
  5. To narrow down the results, filter the timeline by author
  6. Navigate through the timeline by day, week, month, or year
  7. Click the available links in an activity to view the people involved

If you do not recognise an activity or author, review the activity description and the people linked in the entry. The Activity Log identifies who performed the action and when it occurred.
