Read a goal's detail page

The goal detail page shows everything about one goal: its status, overall progress, attainment and target, the target of each period, its sub-goals, the incentive plans that use it and the history of updates. It is also where you find every action you can take on the goal, such as Update progress, Edit goal or Duplicate goal.

Before you start

  • Cascading goals (parent goals, sub-goals and the Based on sub-goals type of metric) are available on the Enterprise plan.
  • You need See key results with a scope that covers at least one person assigned to the goal, or you must be the goal's author.
  • The actions you see depend on your permissions. See Get started with goals.

Step by step

Open a goal

  1. Go to Performance > Goals.
  2. Click the goal's name in the list. You can also open a goal from the employee side panel, the Sub-goals tab of another goal, or the Goals tab of a performance review.
Open a goal – step by step

Read the header

  1. The top of the page shows the goal name and a status tag: Not started, On track, Achieved or Missed. For a goal split into periods, the tag shows the status of the period that contains today.
  2. Above the name, the breadcrumb lists every parent goal above this goal, so you can jump up the hierarchy.
  3. Under the name, you see:
    • Assigned to: the person, people, teams, legal entities, job roles or company the goal is for.
    • Period: the goal's dates, for example "2026" or "Q3 2026".
    • Frequency: how the target is split, for example Quarterly. This line is hidden when the goal has no frequency.

Read the progress cards

  1. Overall progress shows the goal's progress percentage with a bar. The bar stops at 100%, and the number shows the real value, for example 120%.
  2. Attainment shows the value reached so far, in the goal's unit.
  3. Target shows the value to reach. For a goal measured Based on sub-goals, both cards carry the caption "Based on sub-goals" because the values come from its sub-goals.

Read the target allocation

Target allocation appears only when the goal is split into two or more periods.

  1. The chart view shows one bar per period. The solid part is the attainment and the lighter part reaches the target.
  2. Switch to the table view with the table icon. Each row shows Period, Status, Target, Attainment, Progress, Start date and Due date.
  3. For an Achieved / not achieved goal, only the table view is available and Attainment shows Achieved or Not achieved.

Use the Sub-goals and Incentive plans tabs

  1. The Sub-goals tab lists the goal's sub-goals with the columns Goal, Assigned to, Status and Target. Sub-goals that have their own sub-goals can be expanded.
  2. If you can add sub-goals, the tab shows Add sub-goal. Its menu also offers Add existing goals to link goals that already exist.
  3. The Incentive plans tab lists the incentive plans that use this goal, with Plan, Status, Recurrence and People. You see this tab when you can see incentive plans. If your company does not have Compensations, the tab shows "Reward the goals your team achieves" with a way to request it.

Read the history

  1. On a computer, the Previous updates column on the right lists every change to the goal, newest first, grouped by month.
  2. Entries include "created this goal", "updated the progress", "updated Q2 2026 progress" and "added a comment", with the old and new value when a value changed.

Act on the goal

Rules and behavior

  • If you can see a goal but not edit it, then the page shows the data without the editing actions.
  • If a goal is measured Based on sub-goals, then Update progress is not shown and Add sub-goal becomes the main button of the Sub-goals tab.
  • If a goal is not split into periods, then Target allocation is not shown.
  • If the goal is not found or you can't see it, then the page shows "Goal not found".
  • If a goal belongs to an active incentive plan, then Delete goal shows "This goal can't be deleted" and the goal's period and frequency can't be edited.
  • On a phone, the page shows the cards, target allocation and tabs, but not Previous updates.

Limitations

  • You can't comment on a goal without updating its progress. Comments are added from the Update progress dialog.
  • You can't see the history of edits to the goal's name, description, dates or assignees. Previous updates only shows creation, progress updates and comments.
  • You can't reorder sub-goals.

 Troubleshooting

  • Symptom: "I see 'Goal not found' when I open a link to a goal." → Cause: The goal was deleted, or your See key results scope does not cover any of its assignees. → Fix: Ask the goal's author or an admin.
  • Symptom: "There is no Incentive plans tab." → Cause: You can't see incentive plans and your company can't request Compensations. → Fix: Ask an admin for the Manage incentive plans permission if you need it.
  • Symptom: "I don't see the history column." → Cause: The window is too narrow or you are on a phone. → Fix: Open the goal on a computer with a wider window.
