Do it with One: "Give feedback to Marc Puig: thanks for covering the support rota. Visible to him and his manager."
Give feedback sends a written feedback to one or more colleagues, with a visibility you choose. Anyone can give feedback to anyone: peers, direct reports, or their own manager (sometimes called upward feedback). The receivers get an email, unless you send the feedback to their manager only.
Before you start
- Decide who should read the feedback. See About feedback and who can see it.
- Feedback can't be edited after sending, so check the text before you click Send feedback.
Steps
Give feedback from Performance (everyone)
- Go to Performance > Feedbacks.
- Click Give feedback at the top right of the page.
- In Who do you want to give feedback?, select one or more employees.
- In Who should see this feedback?, choose one option:
- The employee only: only the receivers can read it.
- The employee and their manager: the receivers and their managers can read it.
- Their manager only: only the receivers' managers can read it. The receivers aren't told.
- In Write down your feedback, write your message.
- Click Send feedback.
- A Sent successfully message appears and the feedback shows up in the Given view of Performance > Feedbacks.
Give feedback with One (everyone)
- Open One.
- Ask One to give feedback, for example: "Give feedback to Laura Gómez: great job on the demo. Visible to her and her manager."
- Review the summary One shows: receivers, who can see it, and the text.
- Approve the action. One sends the feedback.
For details, see Give, find and delete feedback with One.
Rules and behavior
- If you select several employees, then they all receive the same feedback as one shared item, and each receiver can see the other receivers' names.
- If you choose The employee only or The employee and their manager, then each receiver gets an email about the new feedback.
- If you choose Their manager only, then nobody receives an email.
- If you don't change Who should see this feedback?, then the visibility is The employee only.
- If Write down your feedback or Who do you want to give feedback? is empty, then Send feedback doesn't send anything and the form shows the missing field.
- Line breaks and lists in your text are kept exactly as you type them.
- The feedback is dated with the day you send it.
Limitations
- You can't give feedback to yourself. Your name doesn't appear in Who do you want to give feedback?.
- You can't select everyone at once. Who do you want to give feedback? has no select-all option.
- You can't save a draft. Closing the dialog with Cancel discards the text.
- You can't edit feedback after sending it. Delete it and send it again.
- You can't format text (bold, links), add attachments or @mentions. Plain text only.
- You can't send anonymous feedback.
- You can't schedule feedback for later.
- You can't link feedback to a goal, a competency or a review.
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: "The Send feedback button is greyed out." → Cause: a required field is empty or has an error. → Fix: select at least one employee and write some text.
- Symptom: "I can't find a colleague in Who do you want to give feedback?" → Cause: you are searching for yourself, or the colleague isn't an active employee. → Fix: check the spelling or ask your admin whether the person is active.
- Symptom: "My colleague didn't get an email." → Cause: the visibility was Their manager only, or the email went to spam. → Fix: check the Visibility tag of the feedback in Performance > Feedbacks > Given.
