Do it with One: "How did my team score on Communication in the last review?"
Competency scores appear in five places: each participant's review results (radar chart and answer tables), the action plan (self vs manager), the employee's Competencies tab, the review's Excel export, and competency analytics. The radar chart is also called the spider chart or spider web.
Before you start
- Results only include submitted evaluations.
- Who sees what depends on the review's Visibility settings and on the See competency assessments permission.
Steps
See a participant's results in a review (admins and managers)
- Go to Performance > Reviews and open the review.
- Open a participant.
- In Competencies Assessment, read the radar chart:
- Each axis is a competency, labelled "Competency (Level)" when the job has an expected level, for example "Communication (Proficient)".
- Each line is a reviewer: Self, Manager, and each peer (by name, or "Peer 1", "Peer 2"… when peer reviews are anonymous).
- With more than 5 peers, the peer lines start hidden; click them in the legend to show them.
- Below, open the answer tables (Manager review, Self review, Peer review) to read each competency rating and comment.
See self vs manager in the action plan
- Open the participant's action plan in the review.
- Expand Competency assessment.
- Compare the self and manager radar chart and the side-by-side answers.
- The action plan PDF also includes the self and manager competency answers.
See an employee's competency history (admins, managers)
- Go to Employees and open the employee.
- Open the Competencies tab.
- The tab shows one assessment at a time, newest first, with its date. Use the arrows to move between assessments.
- Each assessment shows a radar chart and the score of each competency on its scale.
See your own results (employees)
- Go to your Profile.
- Open Competencies.
- Browse your assessments with the arrows next to the date.
Export competency results
- Open the review in Performance > Reviews.
- Export the review to Excel.
- Open the Competencies sheet. It includes a Competency level column with the expected level.
Analyze scores across the company (admins only)
Admins can use the Competencies analytics dashboard template (in the Performance analytics / AI reports area) to see average manager scores by competency, team and job title, self vs manager gaps, people per competency level and scores over time. See AI, One & analytics.
Rules and behavior
- If an evaluation is submitted (or resubmitted), then its competency scores appear in the employee's Competencies tab as one assessment.
- If an evaluation is deleted, then its assessment disappears from the Competencies tab.
- If the review's visibility doesn't let you see an evaluation's answers, then that assessment is hidden from the Competencies tab too.
- Employees see their own results only when the review is finished and Restrict results visibility is off.
- Managers see their reports' results when the review is finished, or during the review if Grant managers early access to responses is on.
- The Competencies tab of the employee profile shows each assessment by date; it doesn't show who the reviewer was or which review it came from.
- The radar chart scale goes from 0 to the maximum of the review's scale. The Competencies tab normalizes assessments with different scales to one chart.
- The action plan compares self and manager only; peers aren't included there.
- Performance analytics, including the Competencies dashboard, is available to admins only.
- Factorial shows the expected level as a label next to each competency; it doesn't calculate a gap between the score and the expected level.
Example
Communication, expected level Proficient, scale 1–5: Self 4, Manager 3, Peer 1 4, Peer 2 3. The radar chart shows the axis "Communication (Proficient)" with Self at 4, Manager at 3 and the two peers at 4 and 3. The action plan shows only Self 4 and Manager 3.
Limitations
- You can't see a computed "gap to expected level" in the review; compare the score with the Expected level yourself, or ask One.
- You can't filter the employee Competencies tab by review or reviewer type.
- Peer scores don't appear in the action plan.
- You can't edit a score from the results; the reviewer must edit and resubmit their evaluation if the review allows it.
- Competency assessments outside reviews (standalone assessments) can't be created.
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: "The employee's Competencies tab says 'There are no competency assessments to show'." → Cause: No submitted evaluation with competency questions exists, or you can't see those review answers. → Fix: Check that the review included competency assessment and that its visibility lets you see the answers.
- Symptom: "I don't see the Competencies tab on an employee." → Cause: You don't have See competency assessments for that employee, or your company's plan doesn't include Performance (Business or Enterprise). → Fix: Ask an admin to check Settings > Permissions > Competencies.
- Symptom: "Peer scores don't appear in the radar chart." → Cause: Peers haven't submitted yet, or the peer lines are hidden (more than 5 peers). → Fix: Wait for submissions, or click the peer names in the legend.
- Symptom: "The employee sees their competency results too early (or not at all)." → Cause: Review visibility settings. → Fix: Review the Visibility settings of the review.
FAQ
1. Can the employee see who gave each competency score?
In the review results, peers show by name unless peer reviews are anonymous. The profile Competencies tab doesn't show the reviewer.
2. Can I compare competency results across review cycles?
Yes. Use the arrows in the employee's Competencies tab, or the "Competency scores over time" chart in the Competencies analytics dashboard.
