Factorial IT delivers the network as a managed Wi-Fi profile through MDM. When the network is in range, the device connects on its own. The employee does not need to know the password.
How to use
- Go to MDM > Controls > Add new control and choose Wi-Fi.
- Fill in the network details:
- Network name: the network's SSID.
- Encryption type: the security type, for example WPA2.
- Network password: the password for that network.
- Choose where the control applies: all devices, specific device groups, or a custom target.
Change or switch off the control
Open the control from MDM > Controls to edit or disable it. Disabling stops enforcement. It does not remove settings already applied on devices.
Tips and Best Practices
- Copy the SSID exactly. The network name has to match the one the access point broadcasts.
- Pick the encryption type your network actually uses. If it does not match, the device will not join.
- Use device groups to limit the network to the right people. Target only the devices that should join it.
- Remember that disabling does not remove the profile. Devices keep the network after you switch the control off.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
Troubleshooting
- A device does not join the network. Check that the device is in range and that the Network name, Encryption type and Network password match the network.
- A device still has the network after the control was disabled. This is expected. Disabling stops enforcement but leaves existing settings on the device.
