Bitdefender is not deployed automatically. You set it up by hand first: download the installation package from the GravityZone console, then upload it to Factorial IT. Your company configuration is already built into the package, so the install script does not need a licence key.
How to use
1. Get the installers from GravityZone
- Open the GravityZone admin console and go to Network > Packages.
- Pick an existing deployment package, or create a new one for each platform you target.
- Download the macOS installer (
.pkg) and the Windows installer (.exe).
2. Upload them as custom software
Repeat for the macOS and the Windows installer:
- In Factorial IT, go to MDM > Software > Add app > Custom app.
- Upload the installer and click Add software.
Leave the install script as it is. The default script installs the package correctly.
3. Create the macOS compliance policy
- In Fleet, go to Policies > Add Policy and enter this query:
SELECT 1 FROM apps WHERE bundle_identifier = 'com.bitdefender.EndpointSecurityforMac'; - Call it Bitdefender installed (macOS) and save.
4. Create the Windows compliance policy
- In Fleet, go to Policies > Add Policy and enter this query:
SELECT 1 FROM programs WHERE name LIKE '%Bitdefender%'; - Call it Bitdefender installed (Windows) and save.
5. Automate the installation
Go to Policies > Manage automations > Software and link each policy to the installer for its platform. From then on, Fleet pushes the installer to every device that fails the policy.
Tips and Best Practices
- Create one package per platform in GravityZone. You need a separate installer for macOS and for Windows.
- Do not edit the install script. The package already carries your company configuration, and the default script handles the rest.
- Name the policies clearly. Matching names such as "Bitdefender installed (macOS)" make it easy to link each policy to the right installer.
- Link every policy to an installer. Without the automation, devices that fail the check stay unprotected.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
Troubleshooting
- Devices fail the policy but never get Bitdefender. Check under Policies > Manage automations > Software that the policy is linked to the installer for its platform.
- The agent is installed but not tied to your company. Make sure you downloaded the package from your own GravityZone console. The company configuration comes from that package.
- Linux devices are not covered. Bitdefender is only supported on macOS and Windows here.
FAQ
-
Do I need to add a licence key to the install script?
No. The GravityZone package already includes your company configuration.
-
Which file types do I upload?
A.pkgfor macOS and an.exefor Windows.
-
Is Bitdefender deployed automatically like ThreatDown or SentinelOne?
No. You upload the installers yourself, then use policy automations so Fleet installs them where they are missing.
