Bulk actions in Projects

Discover how to efficiently manage and execute bulk actions in projects to streamline your workflow and save time.

You can select projects across all pages of the Projects list and apply bulk actions in a single operation. Bulk actions are processed in the background, allowing you to continue working in Factorial while the system completes the task.

This article explains how to select all projects, apply bulk actions to large project lists, and track the progress of background processing.

Overview

The Projects list supports selecting all projects across every page, not just the projects displayed on the current page.

When a bulk action is applied to a large selection, the operation runs as a background job. This keeps the application responsive and allows you to continue using Factorial while the action is processed.

Once the process is complete, you will receive a notification informing you that the action has finished.

When and why it should be used

Use this feature when you need to:

  • Update large numbers of projects at once
  • Apply the same action to all projects in a filtered list
  • Avoid repeating the same action page by page
  • Save time when managing large project portfolios
  • Continue working while bulk actions are being processed

How to use

Select all projects across pages

  1. In your sidebar, go to Projects
  2. Open the project list
  3. Select one or more projects using the selection checkbox
  4. Click Select all items
  5. Verify that all projects matching the current list or filter have been selected

Run a bulk action

  1. Select the projects you want to update
  2. Choose the desired bulk action from the available options
    • Assign roles
    • Assign clients
    • Assign people
  3. Confirm the action
  4. The process will start automatically in the background

Track the progress of a bulk action

  1. Submit the bulk action
  2. Continue working in Factorial while the task is processed
  3. Wait for the completion notification
  4. Review the updated projects once the action has finished

If not all projects were updated, wait until the background job has finished processing, check that all intended projects were selected before confirming the action and refresh the project list after receiving the completion notification.

Large project selections may require additional processing time. If the bulk action is taking longer than expected, you can still continue using Factorial while the action runs in the background. Wait for the completion notification before taking further action.

Tips and best practices

  • Apply filters before selecting all projects if you only want to update a specific subset of projects
  • Review your selection carefully before confirming a bulk action
  • Wait for the completion notification before verifying the final results
  • Use bulk actions for large-scale updates to reduce repetitive manual work
  • If multiple administrators manage projects, communicate planned bulk updates to avoid overlapping changes
