Manage Windows Home devices

Learn how to effectively manage your Windows Home devices for optimal performance and security.

For optimal business use, consider upgrading from Windows Home to Windows Pro due to its enhanced security features, better management capabilities, and improved compatibility with enterprise applications.

Recommend Windows Pro licenses for your computers

Windows Home is not considered suitable for professional use as opposed to personal use. Its limitations in terms of security, management, and professional features make it less suitable for business environments.

Here are the main limitations of Windows Home that make it less suitable for business needs:

  1. Lack of advanced security features
    • Absence of BitLocker: Windows Home does not have BitLocker, the disk encryption tool that protects data in case of device loss or theft.
    • Limitations in threat protection: Windows Home lacks certain advanced threat protections available in Windows Pro (WIP and Windows Defender System Guard)
  2. Limited management and administration
    • Limited MDM impact: Although Windows Home can be managed by some MDM solutions, the available features are less extensive than those offered by Windows Pro.
    • Lack of domain and Azure AD management: Windows Home does not allow joining a Windows Server domain or Azure Active Directory, thus limiting authentication and identity management options.
  3. Support and compatibility
    • Lower compatibility with business applications: Some enterprise applications and productivity tools are designed and tested primarily for Windows Pro, ensuring better compatibility and performance.

Windows Pro offers advanced features specifically designed to meet business needs in terms of data security, device management, remote work support, and integration with other enterprise services, thus justifying the additional investment for businesses.

Windows Home licenses and MDM

Both types of licenses (Home and Pro) can be enrolled in MDM. Windows Home licenses still allow for more limited management of your equipment and partial deployment of security policies.
