Goals with targets by period allow you to define milestones throughout the lifetime of a goal instead of tracking a single end target. By setting monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly targets, managers and employees can monitor progress more accurately and identify performance trends earlier.
Overview
With targets by period, you can break a goal into recurring periods, each with its own target, progress, and status.
This feature is useful for goals that require regular milestones, such as sales targets, revenue objectives, or operational KPIs. Instead of creating separate goals for each period, you can manage everything within a single goal.
You can also assign goals to people groups, making it easier to create company-wide or team-wide objectives.
How to use
- In your sidebar, go to Performance
- Access the Goals tab
- Create a new goal or edit an existing one
- Choose who the goal is assigned to:
- An individual person
- A people group (for example, a team or company-wide group)
- Select the goal's target frequency:
- Monthly
- Quarterly
- Half-yearly
- Define the targets for each period. You can:
- Apply the same target to every period
- Split the total target equally across all periods
- Enter a different target for each period manually
- Save the goal
Once created, the goals list displays each period as an expandable row, showing:
- Period name
- Date range
- Target value
- Current value
- Progres
- Status
Open the goal details to review or update progress for each individual period.
Each period is tracked independently with its own status:
- On track
- At risk
- Achieved
- Missed
The goal also displays an overall attainment value calculated from the progress across all periods while maintaining the goal's original target.
This functionality supports goals measured as:
- Numeric values
- Percentages
- Currency values
- Yes/No outcomes

If you only see one target instead of multiple periods, check whether a target frequency has been selected. Periods are only created when you choose a monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly frequency.
Tips and best practices
- Use periodic targets for goals that are reviewed regularly, such as monthly or quarterly business objectives
- Assign goals to people groups when multiple people share responsibility for the same objective
- Review each period's status regularly to identify risks before the overall goal is affected
- Use manual targets when expected results vary between periods instead of being evenly distributed
