Overview
The Welcome Space Permission Group allows companies to manage the visibility of features and fields for future employees.
The Welcome Space is the area where future employees access Factorial before their official start date. With the new Welcome Space Permission Group, you can now decide which features and fields are visible to them during this stage. In this article, you’ll learn what this functionality is, when to use it, and how to configure it.
When and why it should be used
Use this feature when you want to control what information is visible to new hires before their first day.
It helps protect sensitive information (e.g., contracts, salary details) until the employee officially starts.
It replaces the need for feature flags, making configuration easier and reducing technical complexity.
How to use
- On your sidebar, go to Settings → Permissions
- Locate the permission group named Welcome Space
- Open the group and review the list of features and fields available
- Decide which features and fields should be visible to future employees (e.g., company directory, policies, documents)
- Save your changes
- All future employees will automatically be placed in this group until their official start date
- On their start date, they will be automatically moved to their assigned permission group (e.g., All Employees, HR Team, Managers)

This only affects employees with a start date in the future; those who have already started are not placed in the Welcome Space group.
Employees automatically transition to their assigned permission group on their official start date, so there is no need to move them manually.
There is currently only one default Welcome Space permission group available.
