Compensation permissions

Discover essential guidelines for managing compensation permissions effectively to enhance employee transparency and trust.

Compensation permissions in Factorial define who can view, manage, and edit salary-related information across the organization. Because compensation data is highly sensitive, these permissions are designed to ensure confidentiality while still enabling the right people—such as managers, HR, and finance—to perform their roles effectively.

By configuring compensation permissions, companies can control access to salary details, bonuses, variable pay, and compensation changes based on user roles and responsibilities. Properly set compensation permissions allow teams to collaborate efficiently while protecting employee privacy and minimising the risk of unauthorised access.

Employees must be assigned to the corresponding permissions group for Compensation permissions to apply.

 

 

How to set up your Compensation permissions

  1. In your sidebar, go to Settings
  2. Click on Permissions
  3. Select the Compensation section
  4. Enable or disable permissions 
  5. Click on Save changes

Some permissions let you choose the specific scope of a permission in Factorial: deciding who a user is allowed to perform a the action on.

  • For themselves: Only on their own profile/data.
  • For direct and indirect reportees: On employees who report to them, directly or through a hierarchy.
  • For people on teams they lead: Only on members of teams they manage.
  • For people in their legal entity: Anyone in their department, branch, or company entity.
  • For the whole company: Across all employees in the organisation.
 

 

Compensation permissions

 

  • Edit compensation concepts

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to edit compensation concepts from the settings page.

Enable this permission for Create new compensation categories to work → Check Organisation permissions > Contracts

The user must have permission to Manage Compensation settings.

  • Export payroll data

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to export employee payroll data.

The user must have permission to See payroll policy → Check Organisation permissions > Contracts permissions.

  • Import compensations

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to import compensations.

The user must have permission to View compensations.

  • Import payroll results

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to import payroll results in compensations.

The user must have permission to View compensations.

  • Lock edition of compensation

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to toggle the lock of a payroll run.

The user must have permission to Edit compensations.

 

 

  • Manage Compensation settings

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to manage the Compensation settings.

The user must have permission to View compensations.

Enable this permission for these to work: 

  • Edit compensation concepts
  • Manage relationship with bookkeeper
  • Manage employee updates

  • Manage employee updates

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to review, approve, or reject changes to employee information.

The user must have permission to Manage Compensation settings.

The user must have permission to Manage employee updates → Check Payroll permissions > Payroll.

  • Manage payroll integration codes

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to create, view, and edit the codes used to sync employee data between Factorial and external payroll systems.

The user must have permission to:

  • See Marketplace and integrations
  • Manage integrations

Check Company permissions > Marketplace permissions.

The user must have permission to Manage payroll integration codes → Check Payroll permissions > Payroll.

 

 

  • Manage relationship with bookkeeper

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to chat with the bookkeeper and manage compensation documents.

The user must have permission to Manage Compensation settings.

  • Edit compensations

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to edit employee compensations.

The user must have permission to View compensations.

Enable this permission for Lock edition of compensation to work.

 

You can choose the scope of this permission.

 

 

  • View compensations

    This permission allows the employees inside the specific group of permissions to view employee compensations.

Enable this permission for See additional compensation to work → Check Organisation permissions > Contracts permissions.

Enable this permission for these to work:

  • Edit compensations
  • Edit compensation concepts
  • Import compensations
  • Manage Compensation settings
  • Import payroll results
